6 Steps to a Successful Acting Career

An excellent pick for anyone curious to learn more about the acting world
Written and directed by the founder of a New York casting company with a ten-year track record, 6 Steps to a Successful Acting Career lives up to its title and is an excellent from-the-ground-up primer for anyone interested in getting started as an actor. The major topics covered include First Steps, Types of work, Skills Needed, Promotion, Day to day life of an actor, and Levels and goals of a career. A special chapter focuses on issues particular to child actors and their parents, including work permits and the value of the kid/parent team. 6 Steps to a Successful Acting Career is an excellent pick for anyone curious to learn more about the acting world as well as aspiring actors seeking to break into the business. 150 minutes.

Excellent Advice for Beginners and Seasoned Veterans
Unlike hearing it from family or friends, this DVD pours forth valuable information from actors, directors and other veterans of the movie and theatre industry. It is divided into a sensible six areas of information, but you will gain insight from all sections. Well worth the price of admission. Along with Michael Caine's "Acting in Film," I plan to use it as a portion of my introductory class on "Acting for the Camera," at Grosse Pointe Theatre.

10 Things I Hate About You (10th Anniversary Edition) [Blu-ray]

A surprisingly good adaptation of Shakespeare.
10 Things I Hate About You is a fairly basic teen love story, but with the added twist of Shakespeare and some good comedic acting.

The story is based on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. It is about two sisters, one very popular, Bianca Stratford (played by Larisa Oleynik) and the other, Katrina, or "Kat" (played by Julia Stiles) hated because of her gruff character. Their overbearing father (played by the hilarious Larry Miller), devises a scheme whereby Bianca cannot date until rebellious Katrina does, which seems an impossibility. Thereby is set up a scheme to pair Katrina off with the roguish Patrick Verona. One of the masterminds of this plot is Cameron James (played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a newcomer to Padua high, where the movie takes place. The other is his assistant of sorts, Michael Eckman (played by David Khumoltz).

Though somewhat predictable, especially if you have read Taming of the Shrew, it is an interesting light diversion. The dialogue is quite well done,...

Great movie, the type where you'll memorize every line!
When I first saw previews for this movie, I thought that it looked alright, and that it was just another movie like Can't Hardly Wait and She's All That. Since I found those movies entertaining, I decided to watch it. When I finished the movie, I was completly blown away. The movie was nothing as I had expected it would be. The plot was so much better than all of those other teenage movies. This movie has everything: a good script, hysterical jokes, great acting, even a good soundtrack. Heath Ledger played Patrick Verona, a typical tough guy, and it's so fun to watch his tough exterior dissapear to reveal a sensitive loving guy. Julia Stiles does a wonderful portrayal of Kat Stratford, a sarcastic teenage girl trying her hardest not to fit in. Her sister Bianca is also well cast, played by Larissa Olyenick. The contrast between these two sisters is hysterical. Cameron, a sweet guy, is played by Joesph Gordon-Levitt, and you can't help but smile at his innocence...

A Fantastic Movie
The movie is based on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. It is about two sisters Bianca (Larisa Oleynik) and Katarina "Kat" Stratford (Julia Stiles). Bianca is the popular sister who wants to start dating a popular boy, Joey Donner (Andrew Keegan)and Kat is the social outcast. Trying to keep his daughters from dating for fear they may get pregnant, their paranoid father (Larry Miller) makes a family rule where Bianca cannot date until Kat does, which seems impossible. New kid Cameron (Joseph Gordon Levitt) has a huge crush on Bianca and, thinking Bianca likes him in return and wants to date him, he and his friend Michael Eckman (David Khumoltz) devises a scheme where they try to pair Kat off with the school "Bad Boy" Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger).

By reading the basic plot above, you probably think this is just another Teen Flick? Well, though technically a teen flick, it lacks the shallowness that other movies of this genre have. With witty dialogue, some very...

Bugs Bunny's Cupid Capers

Only 36 minutes of cartoons on this DVD!! Should have had 4 times as much!
A real rip-off!!!!!!

Only one (1) 24 minute TV special and two (2) 6 mninute cartoons!!! That is only 36 minutes on a disc that can hold over 180 minutes!!!

Warner should be ashamed to release such a sparce DVD, and charge as much as they do!

First, a very short TV special that contains only CLIPS of original theatrical cartoons, bridged together by poorly drawn & voiced new animation.

Elmer Fudd is Cupid, since the original voice of Elmer died in the late 1950's WB has never been able to find a suitable replacement, the worst is in this TV special.

CLIPS (and only clips, no complete cartoons) are used from the following cartoons:
Hare Trimed (1953) Bugs Bunny
Grey Hounded Hare (1948) Bugs Bunny
Little Beau Pepe (1952) Pepe Le Pew
Super Snooper (1952) Daffy Duck
Rabbit Romeo (1957) Bugs Bunny
Wild Over You (1953)
Of Rice & Hen (1953) Foghorn Leghorn
Devil May Hare (1953) Bugs & Tasmanian...

Nice TV Special
No reason to complain! You get it for a great low price. The overall TV special isn't that great, but you get some clips of cartoons not yet on DVD, like "Hare Splitter," "Wild Over You," and "Little Beau Pepe." There's also two bonus cartoons- "Past Perfumance" and "Holiday Highlights." I recommend this, especially for those of us who love Pepe, and despise the reluctance to give him a disc of his own.

Either For Time Or Content, Not A Very Good DVD.
I did a little DVD shopping in the five-dollar bins at Wal-Mart and picked up a few cartoon DVDs for my four-year-old boy. One was "Bugs Bunny's Cupid Capers." I'd never heard of the DVD. It was a mistake to buy it, but totally my fault. First of all, it contained only one 24-minute TV special and two 6-minute cartoons. The total running time was just a little over a half hour. Well, what could I expect for five bucks? True. But, I've had some really good five-dollar DVD cartoon compilations that ran for well over an hour. Okay, but on this one I just didn't know. Well, were the cartoons up to expectations as far as cartoons go. No. They weren't. I didn't find them to be good at all and my little boy had great difficulty maintaining concentration. I mean, he has no trouble at all getting mesmerized by Tom and Jerry cartoons, but these just fell flat. Well, I didn't find them very good either. I don't mean to knock Loony Tunes as we watched a Daffy Duck DVD last week and it had no...

Sesame Street: Dinosaurs!

Elmo and Dinosaurs in the same video!
My 2 year old daughter is a huge dinosaur fan and an even bigger Elmo fan, put the two together and she watches this video over and over and over again. For a Sesame Street video, there isn't much educational value. It doesn't really talk about what dinosaurs are or how they were discovered. I don't think it even tells the real names of any of the dinosaurs. But my daughter has fun watching as well as singing and dancing along.

NFL New Orleans Saints: Best Games of the 2009 Regular Season

A great DVD of there best games!
Lets start with Miami, where the saints after starting 5-0. The Saints started off down by 21 points. Drew and company led a comeback to beat them 46-34 and keep there undefeated season alive. Next was the Falcons, where the saints defense had a big day with three interceptions and led them to a 35-27 Victory. Then finally there huge game against the Patriots, where there defense and offense took down Brady and the Patriots 38-17. All of these games were great. But I would have taken out the Falcons game and put in the game against the Redskins, where they had a lot of big plays and came back to win in overtime. But I think they wanted to include a Falcons game since they are rivals. But all in all this was a great DVD showcasing some of the best games for the saints of the year and of all time.

Who Dat!
I have Saints Season Tickets and actually attended the New England and Atlanta Games. It is great to see the games again as they led to the Super Bowl victory. The 3 stars is because the games are not in HiDef as they were on broadcast TV. I know it can be done, because the Florida BCS championship DVDs that I have are in "widescreen". That being said, it was a wonderful season and I love having these games as a souvenir. WHO DAT!!

Good DVD Set
Saints vs. Dolphins - 10/25/2009 - 46-34
Saints vs. Falcons - 11/2/2009 - 35-27
Saints vs. Patriots - 11/30/2009 - 38-17

These were really good games for the saints this year they could win the super bowl this is a good set if you want to relive the saints 2009 season

About Last Night & St Elmo's Fire

Two Different Aspect Ratios
Just a quick comment about the DVDs. Each movie is on a separate disc (not a flipper), but St. Elmo's Fire is presented in widescreen (2.35:1) while About Last Night is in full screen (1.33:1). I picked it up in the bargain bin so I can't complain too much. If you want A.L.N. in widescreen, you'll need to buy it separately. The movies are pretty well known 80s fluff so I'm not rating the movies themselves (each to his/her own taste), but I did knock a couple stars off for one package with two different aspect ratios. Most people prefer one or the other.

80s nostalgia revisited
ABOUT LAST NIGHT addresses a question that was central to the 80s: CAN a one-night-stand be transformed into an LTR? Or does the early heat of passion unable to sustain itself over the long term when the couple encounters "real~life" problems?

A subplot to the question is this: what happens when your friends don't care for the person you're dating (and vice versa)? And, what if your friends don't like her friends / his friends? Some major awkwardness can arise as each person jockeys for position in the pecking-order of your affections.

The movie was made back when it was a fad to have movies be 1/2 storyline & 1/2 rock video. The film is set in Chicago and Robe Lowe & John Belushi play best buds who are trying to get by in a profession that they both abhor. A young Demi Moore portrays the love interest for Lowe's character.

I was always perplexed that for yrs this movie was only available on DVD in a foreign / import format. So, when I saw the...

Movie
Love these two movies from the 80's. brought back memories of what we looked like and how great music was then.
